Analiza zagranicznych czasopism z dziedziny bibliotekoznawstwa i informacji naukowej na podstawie "Social Science Citation Index"/"Journal Citation Reports" (SSCI/JCR)

The surveys of user needs prove that journals are the best and most frequently used information source. Among different methods of periodical evaluation the most frequently used is bibliometric method. The article is an attempt of bibliometrical analysis of librarianship periodicals indexed in Social Science Citation Index/Journal Citation Reports in the years 1993-1998. For the sake of the analysis there was implemented the method elaborated by I.V. Marszakowa, relying on comparison of factors of field of knowledge (Ig) with Impact factors (Ip), on which data might be found in Journal Citation Reports data base, created by Institute for Scientific Information in Philadelphia. Analysis provided on the basis of data received from the data base makes possible to select the most esteemed international journals from the field of librarianship and information science. Analysis of the factors of the field of knowledge for the years 1993-1998 indicates the increase of the rate of development of librarianship and information science. Comparison of the list of the international journals from the discussed field and Central Catalogue of the Foreign Journals confirmed the directions of acquisition policy of the Polish libraries. Method of assessing the quality of the journals presented in the article might be helpful in the library' journals' acquisition policy, specifically taking into consideration decreasing budgets of the libraries and increasing prices of the scientific journals.
